Here is the latest on the project's progress over the past few days.
On the tech side, several new things:
For more information, see here.
Godot has built-in streaming, mixing, effects... So we are removing the Wwise layer to handle everything directly in Godot's audio system (with the sounds directly in the game's file system). This brings a major simplification of audio management for the same result.
Work has started on integrating LiveKit, and therefore voice between players.
For now, a room is created by the Horizon server, which puts the player in it. The player receives their connection token and can connect.
This first iteration lets us test the technology and get familiar with it. Right after, we'll modify it to handle proximity voice.
Group / party voice chat will come a bit later.
We want to kick off the creation of a character, which includes 3D modelling, animation, sounds...
To do this, I'm proposing a meeting this Wednesday, 29 April at 9:00 PM (tomorrow / today depending on where and when you read this message). The goal is to work out with those in the know how to break down character creation and create the tasks, or even assign them.
The meeting has been created, you can sign up here: https://discord.gg/Sp7W9eDz?event=1496628659019059272
We talked about it last week, and we've had an additional contribution 💪
Jarran wrote a long explanatory message about the clothing (different layers), which is interesting.
The idea is pretty good; first we need to see whether it's technically feasible. A POC will be done this weekend with several layers of fabric to validate (or not) this clothing mille-feuille. Godot has everything needed to handle clothing fairly well.
OH???? WHAT????
Yes, as you can see, things are moving forward on several fronts, so we're proposing the date for the next test: Wednesday, 27 May at 8:30 PM
If there are no blocking issues (no server crashing), we'll most likely leave it running for several hours, or even days.
